Peasmarsh Place

The welcoming entrance at Peasmarsh PlacePeasmarsh Place Care Home lies just south of the village of Peasmarsh, a few miles inland from the Ancient Town of Rye, and has been established for 25 years.

Sister home to Oakside, in nearby Northiam, this fine country house, built in 1616 on the foundations of the medieval manor house, remained the residence of the Squire until, in 1866 the Liddell family from Co. Durham bought and extended in Victorian style the then-called "Place House"

It was here that Charles Liddell's niece, Alice was first told some of the stories by Lewis Carroll which were later published as "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"

ChurchIn 1937, the second Viscount Devenport undertook a major restorations of the house to its former Georgian elegance with the eminent architect Sir Edwin Cooper creating not only a new entrance, lodge and farm house, but also some of the fine house interior features.

1987 saw the Great Storm destroy 80% of the mature parkland trees, the Third Viscount whose house this was, set about creating an Arboretum of Excellence, which today holds over 2000 general and two national tree collections.

Set in 10 acres of parkland, the fine views of garden with mown lawns and paths for which residents and visitors alike can enjoy the magnificent views of the Sussex countryside.

The Peasmarsh Place, this elegant home, continues to radiate the warmth of the former family home, and our residents deliught in its happy atmosphere.

Within easy walking distance, across the park lies the parish church of St Peter and St Paul, a Norman church with its wonderful Chancel Arch carved with stylistic heraldic animals.

Peasmarsh Place contains communal areas displaying rare and interesting pictures and portraits. The boudoir provides an excellent setting for residents to entertain their guests over lunch or supper.

BEdroomEach resident’s suite includes its own shower room or bathroom and is tastefully decorated, with many having long vistas across the garden park or wider countryside. All rooms have a telephone point for personal use. Residents are encouraged to bring in their own possessions and personalise their rooms to make their stay at Peasmarsh Place as homely as possible. Most rooms are served by a passenger lift. ‘Pets’ will be accepted at the discretion of the home manager.

Drive and houseIt is the aim of Peasmarsh Place to create an environment where people can spend their later years in secure and comfortable surroundings, with individual support by a carefully selected team of dedicated staff. We believe that no two individual are alike, so the attention we provide should not be the same. This approach is designed to maintain the independence and dignity of the individual and provide the best possible lifestyle. Short stay residents are welcome, when suites are available. Day care can also be provided.

diningAt Peasmarsh Place we believe that mealtimes are an important event of the day. We aim to provide an excellent and varied cuisine using local fresh produce, to produce balanced nutritious meals to meet individual choice and requirements. Meals can be served in the spacious dining room with views across to the Church and lake, or in the privacy of the resident’s own rooms.

BedroomTo enhance the quality of life at Peasmarsh Place, we offer a varied range of activities and events, supported by our staff team, local groups and volunteers. The ‘in-house’ library is updated regularly to include large-print books delivered by Rye Public Library. Transport can be arranged to visit the local towns of Rye and Tenterden.

We are visited by a hairdresser and chiropodist, and the local Doctors’ hallpractice provides an excellent service. Other treatments such as aromatherapy, reflexology and massage can be arranged to suit individual needs.

A regular Church of England service is held at the home, and arrangements can be made for worship to meet individual religious requirements. Laundry is attended to on the premises. It is requested that clothing should be machine washable and dry cleaning be arranged by relatives, or by arrangement with the home manager.

Currently, fees for residency at Peasmarsh Place range from £593 to £788 per week.
